My Action Research Plan

My action research plan will involve the study of two very different approaches to discipline.  The study will take place on my campus.
The target of the study will be two different first grade classrooms.
My sample size will be two first grade classrooms.   One classroom is using love and logic as its discipline approach.  The other classroom uses a more traditional discipline management approach.
I will collect data from the two teachers through interviews, behavior sheets and office referrals.  I will compare the two different discipline approaches to determine if behavior modification is taking place.

Action Research Questions
1.  How is the approach to discipline using love and logic different than that of a more traditional approach?
2.   Has the use of love and logic made a difference in discipline issues?
3.  Does the use of love and logic lead to behavior modification?
4.  Which discipline technique has the greatest impact on boys?

Action Research Project

Action Research
The action research plan that I will be working on is discipline. Discipline is very important to the successfulness of a campus.  Discipline is very important to classroom management.   Our campus principal is trying to implement a new discipline approach.  With the help of my action research plan, I would like to determine the effectiveness of the new approach to discipline.  I would like to compare and contrast the new approach to discipline versus the more traditional approach.
The questions I hope to answer with my research,
Will the teachers use the new approach to discipline or stick with the traditional approach?
What is the reason some student misbehave during school?
How will the new approach effect teachers?  Will it elevate some stress when dealing with discipline problems?
How will the new approach effect students? Will there be less discipline problems in the future?

How Educational Leaders Might Use Blogs

Educational leaders can use blogs as sounding boards for other educational leaders.  Educational leaders can also use blogs for communication with parents and community members.  Educational leaders can use blogs to help create new ideas for their campus.  A campus principal may be looking for ideas on fundraising.  The campus principal can post a question on the blog for other campus principals to give their ideas on fundraising.

What I Have Learned About Action Research

What I have learned about action research.  Action research is about posing questions or “wonderings”.  It is about looking at how you are doing as a campus leader and how your campus is doing as a whole.  If you are an administrator that is using action research, you will define an issue or problem. The administrator will review professional literature, and develop a plan of action.  The administrator will then share the results with his/her staff.  Action research helps to improve teaching.  Action research helps to improve academics.  Action research lets the administration, campus principals, faculty, and staff decide what professional development is required to meet the specific needs of the campus or campuses.  I feel using action research as a campus administrator will help me to better meet the needs of the students.  As a campus leader that uses action research, it will enhance the teacher ability of those providing instruction.  Action research allows the problems, issues, and needs of professional development to belong to the campus.  Action research uses the expertise of the campus.  On a typical campus you have veteran teachers and new teachers.  Action research can use the wisdom from the veteran teachers and the enthusiasm of the new teachers.
